Sent: Thursday, January 24, 2002 9:48 PM Subject: Victims Compensation Fund I am so very sorry for the families of the many victims of the 9-11 terrorist act. However, I fail to see why the U.S. government feels an overwhelming obligation to compensate these families to maintain the lifestyle they would continue to have if their family members had not been killed. There are so many natural and man-made acts that cost the lives of innocent citizens for which there is no compensation. Many cannot even afford the cost of the funeral. What about the families of the military men and women who have been killed in the cause for peace through the years, many of them not even a concern to our country. What did they get for their compensation? A letter of condolence and perhaps a token sum. Are the families of the men who have already been killed in Afganistan to receive the same percentage of compensation as the Twin Towers victims? I say they should receive even more. We must use some common sense in this issue and rise above our sympathies to face reality. Our country will continue to suffer the financial hardships created by this terrorist act if our government continues to shell out billions of dollars unnecessarily. If the reason is guilt, then this is not the answer. Use the money to provide security for our airports, schools, and homes and stop sending our money to Arab nations who look upon us with scorn and ridicule.
