I am extremely disturbed by Mr. Feinberg's comments on Meet the Press, 3/10, in which he
says that benefits for gay and lesbian partners of victims of 9/11 will be based on their
respective state laws regarding domestic partner benefits.
Such a stand makes these people victims a second time and serves only to further isolate and
discriminate against the gay community. Having made donations to two different funds, I am
very disappointed by this news.
There should be no distinction here. If benefits are to be extended to illegal aliens, and I'm glad
they are, but suspicious of Ashcroft's promise of no recrimination, then surely we should offer
these same benefits to survivors and partners of those gay individuals who gave their lives on
9/11.
Please reconsider this very unfair and discriminatory position.
