Monday, March 18, 2002 1:47 PM Sept. 11th Fund I have heard that partners of gay and lesbian heroes aboard flight 93 will not qualify for the same benefits as their heterosexual counterparts, including the unborn, and illegal immigrants. While I do not believe the former deserve to be left out of being compensated, it is outrageous and offensive to deny compensation to the loved ones of gay/lesbian heroes of flight 93. The memory of &nbsp and other gay or lesbian Sept. 11th heroes is defiled by the mere gesture of not standing up to what is obviously right: providing the Kudos, and compensation to all heroes equally. If rules can be bent for illegal immigrants, why hold different standards for gay and lesbian heroes. This perpetuates a hypocrisy in America, a great country offering democracy and freedom that many gays and lesbians have lost their lives fighting for, yet are not protected with the basic civil rights afforded others. Even non-citizens have more rights than gays and lesbians in some states. it is a sad day when the government asks it's gay and lesbian citizens to risk their lives in the armed forces, and as heroes, such as on flight 93, and yet will not be given even the courtesy of what is morally right: equal respect and equal treatment under the law. If it is true that partners of gay and lesbian heroes of flight 93, and of WTC workers, are not to be compensated equally as heterosexual family members, than you should be ashamed of yourselves.
