Monday, April 01, 2002 10:45 AM Please do NOT deny benefits to Gay and Lesbian survivors I am emailing today to voice my concern that the government to which I pay taxes and turn to for justice and protection in the wake of these terrible events would deny benefits to the life partners of gay and lesbian victims of Sept. 11th. I can understand our government's commitment to prevent funds from falling into the hands of those seeking to improperly profit from the Sept. 11th attacks. But, in cases where the surviving partners of victims of the attacks have been identified, it would be morally and ethically reprehensible for our government to dishonor the dead by ignoring our responsibilities to their living loved ones. PLEASE honor ALL the fallen of Sept. 11th by treating gay and lesbian partners of lost heroes with dignity, respect and acknowledgement. If you truly believe all those lost on Sept. 11th are our heroes, think about what they would ask on behalf of their life partners...and whether you would deny them that one comfort.
