Monday, January 14, 2002 8:18 PM Compensation for victims - rules It is my understanding that compensation for the families of victims of Sept. 11's terrorist attacks will be reduced or eliminated if they have life insurance or pensions and etc. I object to this in the most stringent of terms. To suggest that people who demonstrate financial irresponsibility should be rewarded and people who have tried to provide for their heirs should be penalized is ludicrous and completely unfair!! The purpose of the fund is to compensate people directly as a replacement for the normal lawful method of compensation by filing a civil suit in a court of law. But, what you propose doesn't replace on form of compensation with another... you are denying them their right under law to any compensation. Treat everyone fairly. Give the financially responsible their fair share!
