9-11 financial aid

Dear Sirs: My question is for the Attorney General, John Ashcroft. First let me say that I support Mr. Ashcroft and think he is doing a great job! Most of my family attend church with and and have known them many years. The point is We're behind you! My question: The families in New York who have suffered loss of family or personal injury are certainly in need of assistance! No question! However, as I understand it, the compensation per each family averages over 1.3 million dollars and they stand to receive lots more money from the over 360 million dollars charitable donations. There are however other families who have been damaged even devastated from the 9-11 tragedy who do not reside in New York.

Having grown up and lived most of my life in Kansas City, I moved to Destin Florida where I purchased a charter fishing boat. I invested all of my life savings and got a mortgage for another $500,000 about 10 months ago. Little did I know that all I had would go up in smoke along with the World Trade Center. Our business is 100% tourist driven.

Since 9-11 there have been very few if any tourists. Non the less we have not had any business, $0 income since that day! What reservations we did have, cancelled. We are a mom and pop operation, we are not Disney or one of the major hotel chains that derive income from other states or countries. NO INCOME MEANS WE DO NOT PAY OUR BILLS! WE ARE TWO MONTHS BEHIND ON ALL OUR DEBTS AND ARE LOOKING DOWN BOTH BARRELS OF BANKRUPTCY!

WE DO NOT WHAT TO LOSE OUR ENTIRE LIFE SAVINGS AND WHAT WE STRUCTURED TO BE OUR RETIREMENT. WE ARE SELF EMPLOYED NOW UNEMPLOYED! WHAT DO WE DO?

OF ALL THE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS BEING FUNNELED TO NEW YORK IS THERE ANY HELP FOR FOLKS LIKE US? IF NOT WHY NOT? AND IF NOT, DON'T YOU BELIEVE THAT IT'S REALLY UNFAIR FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO SUBSIDIZE THE AIRLINES, MAKE PROVISIONS FOR THE HOTELS, AND MAKE MILLIONAIRES IN NEW YORK AND JUST LET THE REST OF US STARVE TO DEATH?

I'M BEING COMPLETELY HONEST AND SINCERE, WE ARE DOWN TO NO GROCERY MONEY TO SAY NOTHING ABOUT ANY OF OUR PAYMENTS OR OBLIGATIONS, ALL BECAUSE OF THE FEAR PEOPLE HAVE HAD TO BOARD AIRPLANES OR VENTURE VERY FAR FROM HOME. A FEAR THAT IS FANNED AND ENLARGED BY CNN I MIGHT ADD! Mr. Ashcroft, we need immediate help! I know that you probably get thousands of letters like mine and probably never even see them, but this is a personal letter and a personal request for help! Can you, and will you help us? Thanks in advance for your consideration.
