Phillips took a picture that would prove to be one of the most evocative and disputed images of that tragic day. Many peple later construed the image of the smoke in his photo of the burning buildings to compose the face of Satan. These e-mails related to this picture provide a revealing portal into Americans' responses to the attacks in the immediate aftermath of 9/11. Dear Mark, A friend has just sent me a email of your picture of the WTC. I know many people say they see a devil with horns but that is NOT what I see. If you look closely you can see it is the face and head of a lion with a cross below its beard. A lion in the Christian bible represents the Lion of Judah which represents Jesus. I cannot for one minute believe that a satanic presence would overshadow the presence of God during this catastophe. I know without a shadow of a doubt that your picture is a sign from our God and Creator that He indeed was present that horrific day to gather His people back into Him. The face I see in your picture is the Lions face depicted in the Bible from the four living creatures. The King of Judah, the Lion of Judah was there present triumphing over evil. No that was no devil that day but our Lord and God and Saviour. You have proof in your picture.
