Comments on regulations
The Federal Legislation that set up the Victims Compensation Fund also significantly limited the ability of victim's families to sue for damages by restricting damages against the airlines. In light of this, I think that your regulations are too stingy. Victims should be compensated for all their damages; pain and suffereing awards should be minimally $500,000 but potentially more for those who can show additional damages. Lost wages should be based on a model that more realistically reflects earning potential for the victims, many of whom were young and just starting out in their careers. Additionally, the only cap on damages should be on what can be proven. I also think that people who paid for private life insurance should not be penalized for making the sacrifices that buying expensive life insurance entails. Finally, when victims were supporting other family members life elderly parents, this should also be taken into consideration. We owe this and much more to the families of those who were lost.
Thank you for your consideration.
