Wednesday, March 13, 2002 10:34 AM 9/11 Fund I am writing to express my sadness regarding inequities in the distribution of money from the 9/11 Fund, specifically, the exclusion of gay and lesbian families from compensation. It is a national travesty heaped upon tragedy when families and little children are denied benefits because of the narrow views of those in leadership. The day will indeed come when this withholding of funds will be seen for what it is - a great injustice. There will be no righting that wrong then, just as America could not provide true justice to citizens of Japanese descent forced into camps during World War II and to those bound by the hideous institution of slavery - both of which were considered "moral" in their day. Justice too late is not justice. The law of love should rule the day, and gay and lesbian families should receive just compensation. Otherwise, our nation's ideal "of liberty and justice for all" are a fraud.
