Saturday, March 16, 2002 5:34 PM The September 11 Fund is Unfairly Discriminating Dear Mr. Feinberg, I am writing to express my disappointment and outrage in your exclusion of gays and lesbians from the September 11th Fund. It is disheartening to see that your fund, which includes all heterosexual partners and children of victims (including fetuses and illegal aliens), has decided to exclude same-sex partners on the basis of a flimsy excuse of not wanting to get sued for giving benefits to people in States where they aren't required. It is obviously a transparent attempt to discriminate against gay men and lesbians, since illegal aliens, which are not entitled to financial benefits (and are in fact supposed to be deported) are being given full benefits and universal immunity if they come forward. There is no justification for giving a blanket exemption in one case, and not the other. Not only are you sending a message saying that people in America who are present illegally have more rights than citizens, but you are effectively spitting on the graves of such heroes from Sept 11th as . I implore you to reconsider this reprehensible, un-American decision.
