To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing you a brief note to express my dismay over the rumor that domestic same-sex partners of those killed in the September 11th tragedy will be excluded from receiving the benefits of your compensation program. The money you are about to dispense was not donated under the expectation that it would only be distributed among heterosexual couples, it was given out of the goodness of people's hearts and souls for ANYONE who suffered a loss (or losses) due to this national event. I know that's where my money went. To deny men and women the monetary acknowledgement that others are receiving simnply because they may not have a piece of paper showing that the state calls them "married" is full of the same bias and prejudice which fostered the crisis in the first place. If your program is truly acting out of kindness in response to the attacks, then you will make it a priority to include everyone in pain, regardless of legalities or sexual orientation. Wouldn't you expect the same if you were in their shoes?

Sincerely,
Individual Comment
