Monday, March 18, 2002 8:38 PM Please tell me it's not true I just received an email from a friend and I'm hoping it's some kind of sick joke. It said that gays and lesbians will not be compensated from the September 11 fund at the same rate as heterosexuals (or fetuses or illegal immigrants). I may not be gay, but I certainly recognize discrimination when I see it. In all the horror of 9/11, WHY would the United States use the Compensation fund to promote homophobia and discrimination? Did homosexuals not suffer as much, so therefore they do not deserve as much compensation? It is not their fault they are barred from marriage. This is not a time for our government to act in a divisive manner. I hope that the administrators of the fund will correct this error and make sure that ALL the survivors of September 11 are treated in a fair and equitable manner - no matter what their sexual orientation may be.
