9/11 Fund - Don't Discriminate!
On NBC's "Meet the Press" this past Sunday, Kenneth Feinberg indicated that
gay and lesbian partners of 9/11 victims and heroes will not necessarily be
eligible for the same compensation as heterosexual family members who lost
their loved ones. Feinberg's statements were a total cop out and a
horrendous disappointment.
Federal agencies should provide leadership and set positive examples--and
not kowtow to individual states' decisions to discriminate against gays and
lesbians--by including gays and lesbians in 9/11 compensation programs. The
events of 9/11 were an equal-opportunity tragedy, and we have ALL suffered.
I hope your organization will reconsider its decision to discriminate
against gay and lesbian Americans.
