9-11 victim compensation fund
To whom it may concern:
I have been following with interest and a growing sense of outrage that our government has chosen to defer to existing state law where survivor benefits are concerned. Many gay folks died that horrible day in September leaving partners, families, homes and other things undone as did their non-gay counterparts. How dare the government, MY government, determine that "their own state" knows what's best, when the federal government has no problem telling the individual states about things such as taxes, highway funding, medicinal marijuana and the like.
My gay dollars went to support all those victims and their families, never thinking for one moment that I would have been discriminated against had this tragedy hit closer to home. It is patently WRONG to defer to the states in this instance, when the federal government has the opportunity to bridge the gap and assist in healing ALL of America, not just STRAIGHT America.
Divide the funds evenly, or provide a formula for me to receive reimbursement for that part of my donations that will be going to non-gay victims and their families.
Sincerely,
Individual Comment
