Tuesday, January 15, 2002 2:31 PM You must change the current victims compensation fund regulations Mr. Feinberg: I am writing on behalf of my close friend of , whose husband was killed in the World Trade Center on September 11. and first child, , was born on September 1, just 10 days before his father would be murdered by terrorists and now is left a widow to raise her child alone. I am writing to you to plead her case and to encourage you to change the current victims compensation fund regulations that provide compensation for a few and are inadequate to all. Case in point, under the current tables will be receiving very limited compensation, if any. I would ask that you implement the following changes as soon as possible to rectify this injustice: 1. Use UP-TO-DATE NEW YORK STATISTICS which would reflect the victims potential lifetime earnings. 2. ELIMINATE THE CAP of $225, 000 in yearly earning potential. 3. INCREASE THE NON-ECONOMIC DAMAGES taking into consideration the immeasurable pain and suffering endured by our loved ones and our families. Non-economic damages should be guaranteed due to the offsets applied by Congress and the amount of individuals who will receive limited compensation from the fund. 4. Families should be fully informed of what their compensation will be in writing prior to officially waving their right to litigate. This would maintain their rights to pursue civil time in state or federal court for damages. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
