9/11 Fund Exclusion of Gays
To Whom It May Concern,
I am outraged that families of gay and lesbian victims of the 9/11 tragedy
will not be automatically compensated in the same way as families of
heterosexual victims. Americans have pulled together as never before as a
result of this tragedy and denying equal compensation to families of gays
and lesbians is to alienate queer and queer friendly Americans (and there
are quite a few of us). Discriminatory policies are not new to gays and
lesbians and their families, however this policy is particularly
offensive. The tragedy of that day was felt just as much by families of
gays and lesbians as it was by families of heterosexuals. The entire
country felt an extreme sense of loss on that day, one which will last for
many years to come. I find it disturbing that there are people who feel it
is not appropriate to compensate ALL families who lost loved ones on that
day. I think it is tragic that people with such sentiments are in charge
of the 9/11 fund.
Sincerely,
Individual Comment
