To Whom It May Concern,
I would like to tell you that I greatly appreciate your efforts to help our
nation after the devastating events of September 11. However, it has come to my
attention that your efforts in aiding those who have lost their loved ones have
been excluding a major group of our nation's citizens-- the gay and lesbian
population. I believe that if exceptions to the law can be made for those such
as illegal aliens (who also deserve the help that everyone else does), it can
be made for all who have lost their loved ones in the events of September 11.
Simply being homosexual does not make one any less of a person, nor any less
deserving of the aid of their nation. It is our very own pledge of allegiance
that states, "...and liberty and justice for all." What justice would it be to
deny suffering citizens the aid they desperately need in their time of loss
simply because they happen to be homosexually oriented? I would like to ask you
to please rethink your policy and to allow your relief efforts to extend to
consider EVERYONE in need. It is the duty of us as a nation to stand together
and help one another, no matter how we may be categorized-- for we are all
Americans. Thank you again for your efforts.
