Re: September 11th Victim Compensation Fund of 2001
I am writing to comment on the rules for distributing funds to survivors
of the victims of the September 11th attacks. I believe the money should
be distributed equally. You cannot know how much someone would have made
in the future or who would have changed jobs because of their personal
initiative. Some people whose survivors would receive large amounts may
have lost their high-paying jobs the next day, bumping them down to a
lower-paying category.
I am mostly opposed to this because I find it un-American. The Preamble
to the Constitution states the commonly held belief that all men
[persons] are created equal. Also, I don't feel that the proposed Rules
are sufficiently wise or flexible to determine how much support was
provided by wage earners. A single person, after all, can support
parents who live in another state who rely on this support.
