I thought the 9-11 attacks had already shown all of us what damage "hatred" and "exclusion" create. Please reconsider your current position on this. It seems totally irrational to me to mandate that spouces without a marriage license are ineligible to receive benefits when a marriage license is unattainable to gays and lesbians. I understand this stance is one which you are also taking against heterosexual; engaged survivors. . . also incorrect. No one is asking you to change marriage laws. All any of us want is for a humane reaction to a very inhumane situation. Straight, Gay or Engaged: relationships existed prior to 9-11 which cannot be ignored. If we are to win this war on terrorism we must stop waging terror against our own people who don't appear to fit into nice square boxes.
