As an American citizen who has lived in a family relationship with another man for nearly seventeen years, and as the father of a two-year old boy, I believe that our family is no less deserving the protection and support of our nation than any other. And should we personally experience a tragedy of the magnitude of September 11, I would hope that the nation would come to our aid as fellow Americans. My hope is that one day our nation will rise above the petty divisiveness we so often see and hear, and recognize the great wonder and diversity of the families that weave together the fabric of our society.
