9/11 Gay Partners of Victims
Dear Mr. Feinberg:
Personally and professionally, as a psychotherapist, I am deeply saddened
and horrified that this country would consider that the gay surviving
partners of people who died in the 9/11 tragedy are less deserving of
compensation than other partners. I am writing to ask you to re-consider
your policy regarding benefits to the surviving gay partners of the 9/11.
This tragedy affected every American, and these families in particular do not
need to experience further suffering due to being treated unworthy and
less-than because they or their family member was gay. We Americans rallied
in the midst of our grief to reach out to those in New York and all who were
most closely affected--we rose to the occasion. Why would some people or
organizations now stoop to demean and dehumanize a group of people--this is
stooping to the level of 'the enemy' who zealously decided that those who
are different (we Americans) deserve cruel and inhumane treatment?
Please re-consider your policy.
Thank you
