Comments on victim compensation plans for Sept. 11

Hello --

I think we should all be proud that so many Americans have contributed so much, to relieve the suffering
of victims of the Sept. 11 attacks.

But the proposal that victims of Sept. 11 should be compensated twice -- once from private charity, again
from a government fund -- while victims of so many other tragedies generally receive no compensation at
all, goes against all notions of fairness. Once is right, but once is enough. Charitable awards that victims
receive should be considered when deciding how much they get from the government fund.
