9/11 Fund

I just received a very disturbing e-mail that claims that partners of gay Americans injured in the 9/11 tradegy will not receive any compensation for their lost. It further stated that aliens who are in this country illegally will receive monies from this fund and that it will not jeopardize their continued stay here. Please tell me that this e-mail is a hoax and that there is no truth to it.

I am a 63 year-old blonde, blue-eyed, straight, white American woman. I was raised in a very segregated part of this country and have spent my life trying to overcome the prejudice that I was taught. I taught my daughter to judge every person she meets based on their morals, personality, and trustworthiness. This includes people of other races and people who have a different sexual orientation than ourselves. As a result we have opened our lives to receive love, kindness, and friendship from some of the most important people in our lives. These people are not just Americans, they are some of the best Americans I have known.

I seriously doubt that anyone trying to escape from the horror of September 11th stopped to ask the sexual orientation of the person(s) trying desparately to help them reach safety. Do we have the right to ask now? I think not!
