Sunday, January 13, 2002 12:19 AM ELEGIBILITY FOR FIANCES FOR COMPENSATION To whom it may concern: I need to bring to your attention a very REAL situation that is being IGNORED or DISMISSED: Fiances of the victims. Speaking as a Fiance, it is a horrific feeling to be totally unaccounted for in this whole 9-11 tragedy and it almost seems like my 8-year relationship with my fiance ( 4 of them living together sharing a home) didn't exist!?!?!? Despite not having the piece of paper that says we were married under state laws, our union was VERY REAL and I AM a victim. My 6 yr. old son and I are BOTH undergoing therapy to help us cope with our suffering - the SAME loss as that of a widow's, which I absolutely consider myself to be. Situations such as mine NEED to be recognized and compensation needs to be addressed FAIRLY: taking into consideration the lives of those that died under the times that we live in NOW. The truth of the matter is that people nowadays don't get married right away and more often than not, end up living together long before marrying. Does this mean that they do not share their lives with one another? Does this mean they do not consult with one another as husband and wife? Does this mean they are not responsible for one another? Does this mean they do not share each others' expenses and support each other? Does this mean they are not committed??? A piece of paper DOES NOT marry people, people 'marry' which means they COMMIT to each and in that sense, we WE MARRIED EACH OTHER! THE POINT: I DO NOT mean to take money away from his mother, the "next of kin," but merely want to be INCLUDED in this along with her. She may have raised him, BUT I SHARED HIS LIFE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Victim Compensation Act NEEDS to recognize these unions and recognize all fiances' VERY REAL PAIN, SUFFERING & LOSS.
