Friday, December 28, 2001 1:53 PM Comments I think that the idea of Congress benefiting this one group of unfortunates at taxpayer expense is discriminatory and an unlawful distribution of taxpayer money. I am not without compassion for the victims of Sept. 11. My daughter was in the North tower when it was struck, but was fortunate to escape with minor injury. Had she been killed I would not have expected a federal handout, nor would I have accepted one on her behalf. The September 11th victims have no more right to taxpayer relief than a person hit by a meteorite or a person run down by a penniless drunk. If Congress were to provide for all unfortunates on an equitable basis I would strongly support such largesse. But to discriminate on behalf of so small a group of constituents is without merit and mere political expediency. Besides, a large percentage of the victims are amongst the highest paid people, and their survivors, if they have practiced even a modicum of financial thriftiness, should be financially well off, and if not, well they can just make a change in life style.
