Dear Administrator:

In memory of , and so many more, I would like someone to explain to me why the families and partners of gay and lesbian victims of the September 11 attacks will be compensated less than their straight counterparts. I would like to know why undocumented workers and fetuses receive more consideration and respect from the Fund than do gays and lesbians.

If someone could explain this to me without the slightest touch of irony, without appearing hypocritical, and without throwing the blame on someone else, I would feel a lot better about the fact that I contributed to the September 11 fund. At least then I would understand why 10 percent of the U.S. population is asked to fight for our country but not tell, is asked to sacrifice their lives in acts of heroism but expect nothing in return. At least then I might be able to understand.
