Monday, January 28, 2002 11:50 AM Concerned Citizen There is no question that these victims deserve better than what they are receiving. I think the set amount of $1.65 Million is a good amount, but to have them take off the amounts they receive from death benefits, is absolutely ridiculous! They could easily sue the airlines for more than they are being offered, but they are trying to work something out that wouldn't harm them, or the economy. Also, the fact that the government is not releasing the actual facts on how, and what they will actually be paid out, is making them look like the bad guys. I think it is time that we step back, and look at what happened again. These people were victims of our governments inability to detect what was obvious to so many others, we were going to be attacked. The government really didn't do their part on this. Whether it be the CIA, or FBI, or whomever...it was the government in the long run. Time to issue these people their $1.65 Million each, and have no questions asked. It would be in the best interest of a "Unified" country. Instead of trying to turn the "non-victims" against the real victims. Make sure each victim is paid out accordingly, regardless of their death benefits, and make sure that these, so called, charities pay out as they had said they would. Once that is all said and done, I don't think there is any reason to have additional problems, or pay-outs. They should have been somewhat prepared in case of an accidental death, so they shouldn't really need more than we are set to give them, along with what the charities are giving them. I can understand that argument. However, for the airlines to deduct money out of their pay-outs based on what they were already covered with, is ridiculous!
