Dear Director Zwick:

As members of Amnesty International, we are committed to ensuring that the basic
human rights of people are respected without discrimination. Therefore, we request that
the Justice Department include life partners, as well as de facto parents and children, as
relatives eligible for compensation from the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund,
without regard to sexual orientation or marital status. The state of New York has adopted
such a policy.

Real justice and fairness can be served only if all types of families impacted by the
tragedy of September 11 are treated with dignity and equality.
