Dear Mr. Zwick:
I am a mother of three sons; one biological, one step. and one adopted Raising them, I have known families of every configuration imaginable. If I have learned anything it is that love and fidelity come in unexpected combinations. If my husband died I would be devastated emotionally, but add to it the prospect of losing a home that we both worked to own and the burden could break a person.
A family is built around love and honor. I believe that partners,
especially partners named in wills and recognized in the few ways that
society allows gay and lesbian families to announce themselves, should be respected and given the same help offered to any other survivors.
