Tuesday, January 22, 2002 5:41 PM Comments on proposed fund The proposed formula for distributing public money to victims of the Sept 9 attack is both fair and very generous. I have personally contributed several hundred dollars to a charity for the victim's families. Employees in our company contributed several thousands. We did so out of compassion. We wanted to ease at least some of the financial impact of the losses suffered. It made those of us who gave to charity feel good to help in any small way. Now many of the victim's families are complaining about the amount of money they will get. People who will be getting a $1,000,000 insurance payment complain that this reduces what they will receive from the government. The concern of many seems to have shifted to money. In many cases it sounds like greed. It makes those of us who gave to charity sad.
