GLBT people excluded from victim's compensations
To Whom it May Concern,
I cannot tell you how outraged I am that once again we as GLBT people are
being excluded when it comes to an issue of basic fairness. The people who
died saving lives in the World Trade Center did not care if the people they
were working to save were gay or straight. The people who were being saved
did not care if the people who were saving them were gay or straight. Yet,
when it comes time to, in a small way, acknowledge and compensate the
people who gave their lives on that tragic day, sexual orientation suddenly
becomes an issue.
If September 11 and it's aftermath taught us anything, it's that we need to
put aside our differences and unite. As far as I'm concerned, failure to
acknowledge, personally and financially, the contributions of our GLBT
citizens weakens us as both a people and a nation.
Sincerely,
Individual Comment
