Tuesday, November 20, 2001 3:46 PM Sept.11 Victim Comp.Program Dear Mr. Zwick, As a parent of a deceased victim of the World Trade Center terrorist attack, the American Trial Lawyers Association has urged us to respond to the Notice of Inquiry and Advance Notice of Rulemaking. My concern would be that the emotional damages done to the victims' loved ones not be minimized. Not only did we lose our son, brother, husband etc. to this horrendous mass murder, we were subjected to watching it over and over again in the media. The only way to avoid the constant stab of pain was to not watch television at all; for you never knew when the crumbling towers were going to pop up on your screen. My husband left my two daughters and me in February 2001. When he left, we were devastated emotionally. My son stepped right in and filled the roll left by his father. He provided emotional support, did all of the heavy work around the house and yard and made us feel secure. He was there for us in every way. We loved him dearly and were going to be just fine. When he died, it ripped a hole wide open in our hearts and plunged my youngest daughter into a depression. Please ask the Special Master not to evaluate pain and suffering on a sliding scale. There are no offsets for this. It hurts just as much for a mother, father, sister or wife to lose someone this way. Thank you for your support in this program. We truly appreciate everyone's efforts.
