Friday, January 11, 2002 2:21 PM Deduction of Social Security Benefits Should Be Reduced by Amount Paid into Social Security by Victims To whom it may concern, Deduction of Social Security Benefits Should Be Reduced by Amount Paid to Social Security by Victims If the final rules require the victim's compensation award to be reduced by the present value of Social Security benefits to be received, I believe it is only just and equitable that the deduction for Social Security benefits be reduced by the amount of money that the victim, and his or her employer, paid into the Social Security program over the course of his or her working life. The victim should not be penalized for having paid a significant amount of money into Social Security. It is fair to say that the victim's payments into Social Security, like premiums paid for a life insurance policy, if not diligently paid over the years by the victim, could have been used to purchase assets that would today not be required to be deducted from the victim's compensation amount.
