Victim Compensation
Dear Sir or Madam:
I am writing regarding the compensations which are to be granted to the survivors of those who perished in the September 11th tragedy. It has come to my attention that same-sex partners of the victims will not necessarily receive comperable compensations as other survivors. It seems that the justification for this is that the law does not guarantee such compensation. I and many others I know of find this unsettling.
If there was one lesson the events of September 11th taught us, it is that be we African-Americans, American-Indians, or gay-Americans, we are all Americans. Furthermore, in times of crisis, we stand by our fellow citizens, even if they are not yet born or if they are not full citizens under the law. Indeed, fetuses and survivors of victims who were here illegally are entitled to compensation. Therefore I see no logical reason why same-sex partners are not given the same merit.
Please do not let the most important lesson September 11th taught us, that we are one nation, be forgotten.
Sincerely yours,
Individual Comment
