The Red Cross announced that they are no longer soliciting money for this fund because it is now funded adequately. So, why the need for this government fund? The government should help these people if they are stuggling financially because of lost wages, but not pay for any pain and suffering. To do so would be somehow admitting guilt or negligence for the attacks. Example: A father should not receive any payment for the loss of a daughter who he is not financially dependent on, but a daughter should receive payment for the loss of a father who she is financially dependent only. The government should pay for pain and suffering only if the pain prevents someone from being gainfully employed, which essentially falls under the "lost wages" category. Any amounts received from other sources (charities, insurance, etc.) should be deducted from any amount the government might award.
