discriminating against fellow americans?

Is it true that gay and lesbian partners of those
who died on September 11 are not automatically going to
receive the same benefits as heterosexual spouses? Does this
include families too? And illegal immigrants and workers will
be receiving aid? What about illegal immigrants and workers
who have gay spouses?

I am not an American. I don't want to stick my nose into your
affairs, but I really don't understand why you discriminate
this way, and not in others. Who does this serve? Are we
awarding illegal activity here? Why? Is there a sudden
absence of initiative to provide leadership at the federal
level?

I hope all parties are given the tools to heal in the best way
possible, and to come together as a stronger more cohesive
community, not out of fear, but out of mutual respect.
