Atrocities, revisited

I think it a crime against ourselves that Kenneth Feinberg, head of the
September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, will not compensate same-sex
partners of the tragedy victims for their loss. By following state law
regarding the lack of recognition of same-sex partnerships, he makes a
statement that it is alright for states to descriminate against people
simply because of who they choose to spend the rest of their lives with.

Mr. Feinberg seems willing to bend the rules when it comes to compensating
illegal aliens, but reluctant to bend state rules when it comes to
compensating our own citizens who may live an alternative lifestyle.
Mourning transcends sexuality. Losing someone you love is no easier for a
homosexual than a heterosexual.

Such is the kind of descrimination practiced in the countries that harbor
terrorists. And sometimes it makes me ashamed of being an American.
