Washington, D.C. 20530 Dear Mr. Zwick: My husband died in the WTC tragedy on September 11, 2001, hence leaving me a widow and my 12 year old son fatherless. We did not have the good fortune of having other relatives in this country to be at our side during this terrible and tragic time. In response to the request for Victims Compensation Fund, there are several issues I would like to emphasize upon: 1. My husband was a responsible estate planner and planned extremely well in terms of purchasing adequate life insurance and other benefit options that in conjunction with his employer he had managed to build up with years of extremely hard work. This was my husband's life long build up, and being so, it is very unfair that the government subtract whatever funds that my family may have been eligible for from the estate my husband left for his family through his hard work and dedication to his employer and the country. The government should not penalize my family because my husband was a responsible citizen and worked hard to build an adequate estate. 2. There have been many organizations that have been kind and charitable to provide some type of benefit to my son and I. While their charitableness and kindness can never be forgotten, I do feel it is in the best interest of everyone that the government subtracts any benefit my son and I have received from these organizations. 3. The government should understand my personal situation and circumstances. I have become a widow after my 25th anniversary with my husband, and I have been at my husband's side ever since I was married 25 years ago. Again neither one of us had the good fortune of having any relatives within the United States to be with us or at our side, especially at the time of my husband's untimely and tragic death at the World Trade Center. I must support and raise my 12-year-old son who now is fatherless. Whatever estate planning my husband did along with all the benefits provided to my son and I, we will have to make good of it for the remainder of our lives. Our sense of security was taken away from us on September 11, 2001 when my husband died. I am requesting you as a single mother with my 12-year-old son to graciously consider all that I have written in this letter. In closing, I sincerely thank you for your considering my comments.
