I don't understand, other than as a way for the Bush bunch to continue their support for big business(airlines), by subterfuge using 9/11 victims, why anyone should be compensated for the death of relatives. No one else is, except for a small SS death benefit. While I feel for their personal pain (And sometimes pain is not always the case where there was discord in a family.) why should taxpayers give to those who in many cases ,as they give tearjerking interviews from beautiful homes and apts. in classy neighborhoods, have far less need than many who must pay those taxes from meager, just get by, if "I pay my taxes and do without meds" incomes. I know this is the case for me. Often these people are the same ones who prior to something happening to them , lived in a little protected bubble and constantly talked of a meritocracy - that others, no matter what their problems or tragedies, just needed to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and not depend on the government. They also ranted about personal responsibility. Didn't they show personal responsibility by having adequate insurance etc. to provide for their families in such an emergency as unexpected death. While I am grateful for public servants who put their lives on the line, they also knew of the risks of those kind of jobs. I know, because of those risks, they also have widows and children funds and insurance far beyond what the average citizen can afford as part of their benefits. I am not a grinch but I fail to see why the deaths of 9/11 victims are any different than those of any who lose their life unexpectedly. This happens every few minutes of every day. Where is the government for them? To rub salt in the wounds, the unseemly greed and entitlement is nauseating. Stop this farce immediately. If some airlines are necessary to keep the economy afloat loan them the money to keep going. Allow the families to sue. It seems if you die in a certain way in this country it is your entitlement. I have often wondered when I hear of huge settlements from the death of a family member, how the recipients feel spending the death cash on cars, houses, and vacations. Use any donated monies for the truly needy and to restore the NY economy. Otherwise let the greedy stop bilking the rest of us. Nobody owes them a thing!
