Monday, March 18, 2002 10:21 AM Tragedy amplified for gay and lesbian families While I'm glad that the 9-11 fund is available for families whose lives have been shattered by the tragedies in September, I'm saddened to know that yet again the partners of gays and lesbians who died in the terrorist attacks are being victimized. I cannot believe that it is acceptable to overlook someone's status as an illegal immigrant, but you cannot bend the rules to allow gay and lesbian partners to receive the same benefits as heterosexual partners. So much for a country united, a country helping ALL victims of the tragedy. Please reconsider your stand, and allow gay family members to receive the same treatment as heterosexual ones. In the land of equality, that shouldn't even be an issue.
