None of us want to see them potentially marginalized by making them less valuable than other American citizens. Imagine, maybe someone on Sept. 11 was rescued by a gay fireman, maybe one of the heroes on the Pennsylvania plane was helped or comforted by a lesbian. Shocking! Would that make their sacrifice less worthy? Children of gay and lesbian parents, as well as their long-term partners, deserve the same consideration as others.
