9/11 Fund


To Whom it May Concern:
It is appalling to me that patriotic Americans whose family members were
killed on September 11th would not be allowed to receive funds from the 9/11
fund just because the victims were gays or lesbians. How can a country which
works so hard to fight discrimination be so complicit in perpetuating it? How
could you believe that gay partners grieve less, need less or feel less than
other Americans? That is what you are saying by denying some Americans aid
because of their sexual orientation. Hiding behind the veil of "we can't go
against state law" doesn't wash. This is a fund created by donations of
Americans who weren't asked what their orientation was before you cashed
their checks. If gay people are encouraged to support their country and its
fallen heroes, the country must support them as well.
