To help us do so, a lot of the outward prejudices towards everyone were dropped. For the first time, we all looked at each other as the same, as equals. We no longer saw each other as Native Americans or African Americans or Italian Americans or Heterosexual Americans or Homosexual Americans, we were simply Americans. I thought that was progress. Now it seems, you are revoking that feeling. Tell me why the gay and lesbian partners of the people who died on September 11 are not going to receive the same benefits as heterosexual partners. Is it now that the aftermath seems to have calmed down, you show us that you simply lied? That we should only come together and be equals when there is a crisis? You should know that would only make us appear weaker. We should not have had to wait for this attack to make us come together. It should be a continuous thing. With your statement saying that the homosexual partners do not deserve the same as the heterosexual partners, you are setting it all back. It makes me livid to see how simply you can tear it all apart. It brings to mind a few words I shall leave you with: hypocritical and bigoted.
