911DA Story: Story

I had just started a program for inmates just arriving at Nottoway Correctional Center, when word spread throughout the prison from inmates and staff that a plane had hit one of the twin towers. Unlike most, I knew right away that it had to a terrorist, remembering the 1993 bombing attempt of the Twin Towers.

My first thought was of my wife and our unborn child, our first, about how thankfull I was that I knew she was safe. But however, my heart sank to think about all those who must have lost their lives on the plane and in the area that the plane must have struck.

I went on with the program, only to learn at 10:00 am just how bad things had gone. This was the first time I could get to a television and see the coverage. The first tower had already fallen, the Pentagon had been hit, and I witnessed as many did live on TV the second tower fall. At that point, sorrow had just filled my heart in way that I had never felt before.

From that point on, I knew that I would never be able to forget the events of this day. I WILL NEVER FORGET, and I know that as a country neither will AMERICA. God Bless America, and all those who lost their lives and love ones on September 11, 2001.
