911DA Story: Story
The day started out just like any other Tuesday. It was my day off from work and I was sitting on the couch finishing off a bowl of Cheerios, waiting for my 7-1/2 month old daughter to wake up. I was watching the last 15 minutes or so of Good Morning America just like I always did. Pretty soon Diane Sawyer came on and reported that something was going on at the World Trade Center. There was footage being shown of a burning building. I was sitting there wondering what had just happened when all of a sudden another plane came in from the right of the screen and plowed into the other building! I couldn't believe it. I heard Diane say "Oh my God" and I was thinking the same thing. I couldn't believe that I had just witnessed "live" terrorism. When the buildings came down, all I remember thinking was "Those people didn't get out! Those people couldn't have gotten out!" The horror of the whole thing settled in right then. I tried to call my husband and my parents and their phones wouldn't even ring because the phone lines were so backed up. I started freaking out because I didn't understand what was happening. I got ahold of my mother-in-law and started crying and she came over right away. It was a day that you couldn't be alone. So we watched TV and waited for loved ones to call. They were all finally able to get through. It was a terrible, nerve-wracking day and I was so glad that my baby was and still is too young to understand because I had no idea how I would explain it.
