911DA Story: Story

I was drinking coffee and half-heartedly watching TV news when the report came on that the first tower was hit--they knew not just what had happened and said "we'll now go to [someone] at the scene for further details" at which point a reporter first mentioned that a plane of unknown origin had crashed into the WTC. Just then we all witnessed the second plane hit the other WTC tower. Perhaps I was numb or in shock. I had just lost my mother September 2nd and was unable to travel to Scotland for her 9/6 funeral, so I was in poor emotional health. Anyway, I just got up and got ready and drove to work and went through the rest of the day as usual, I guess. I cried that night when I went to bed because I knew how the loved ones left behind must feel at losing their precious family member(s) or close friend(s) or co-worker(s) and feel so lost and helpless. Just a raw, empty hole in one's heart followed by excrutiating pain. Just when you think you're getting better, along comes the anniversary and you discover you are still hurting deep inside for your own and others' losses. God bless us all--here in the United States of America and all around the world.
