911DA Story: Story
My alarm is set to KNPR radio station. I was awaken at approximately 6:30 a.m. to the news broadcast that the Trade Center had been hit by an airplane. I jumped out of bed and turned on the television and much to my horror I caught the broadcast showing the first plane hitting then the second one hitting. I woke my son up and had him sit with me. We sat and held hands and cried. I told him that we had to attempt some type of normalicy even in the tragedy. As we were driving to school, we saw several children playing on the playground of a school. It looked so incredibly surreal. It reminded me just how safe we feel in America. And now in these troubling times, I wonder just how safe we really are. As a result of 9/11, I now have an idea of what it must be like to live where buildings and homes are being bombed. It is earth shattering. To this day whenever I see fotage of the Trade Towers being hit, I cry. My family and I will never forget 9/11 or all those that perished leaving orphaned families. We are forever grateful for all of the brave souls who made the ultimate sacrifice and perished trying to save others.
