911DA Story: Story

September 11 is my only daughter's birthday and wedding anniversary. She had joined the Air National Guard and was stationed at Sheppard AFB in Texas.

Just after the second plane hit the WTC, I was going to call her to wish her Happy Birthday when she called and said she only had one minute to talk that they were on "lock down" and would call again when she could. It was a while before we heard from her and while she was stationed there, she was told not to draw attention to herself by marching in formation or wearing her uniform off-base when they were allowed to go again.

We had no idea if she would be called up or transferred to another location, and with five children and a husband at home, it was really hard for them.

Now, she faces a trip to Kuwait in either November or December for anywhere from two weeks to one year. We're behind her all the way, but are very concrned for her safety. However, she realizes that a person who swears to fight for their country must live up to that pledge.

God Bless America and those who died for our freedom!
