Title A name given to the resource September 11 Digital Archive Stories Description An account of the resource This collection is the bulk of the archive, representing the reactions and experiences of thousands of individuals beginning in 2002. 911DA Story 911DA Story: Story Tell us about what you did, saw, or heard on September 11th. Feel free to write as much or as little as you like. Tell us your story: I watched from my classroom as the future with the man I loved crumbled to the ground. He was inside. He was there. He went to work that day for Eurobrokers and never came home. I was teaching a class when a student, whom I will never forget as long as I am alive, raised his hand and asked calmly,"Miss McCourt, are those buildings on fire?" I looked right at him and said ,"No, no I think it is just the smoke from the nearby factories blowing in front of the buildings." I don't think it really registered that they were indeed on fire. I went into shock immedeatly. I ran out of my classroom to try to enter another room to get a different perspective, to assure myself of what I thought was an optical illusion. I ran right into my friend that taught two doors away. She simple said "Two planes..!" I ran. I ran to the office and I called Eurobrokers. It was busy. I called his cell phone. I got his voice mail message that reflected his cheerful nature. I ran out the front door of the school, I don't remember if I told anyone I was leaving, I just left. I went home ten blocks away to wait. I called my brother in Boston and told him to try to call for me, maybe his lines were working. I called my mother at work and she said, " Don't worry , he WILL get out and we will all be able to go out for your birhtday on Friday like we planned." I waited all day and night and I never heard from him. I was told bits and pieces that day concerning where exactly he was at what time, but I don't know for sure. All I know is one minute he was working and planning our future together, and the next he was gone. Gone. No time to say goodbye. I found out two days later that he was planning to propose at the end of September. I am so fortunate to have met a soul like that of Mario Nardone Jr., and to have shared such wonderful and profoundly meaningful times with him. I miss him terribly and hope that his memory will live on in the hearts of so many, as he touched so many while he was here with us.
