I am a teacher trainer---staff developer. On that morning, another teacher entered my room and said, "Do you have a radio? A plane just hit one of the Twin Towers?" I thought it was a small plane with some dummy of a pilot. But my sons both work in finance in Manhattan, and one had just interviewed at Merril Lynch on Liberty Street. I was concerned about him, but not frantic. It seemed an isolated incident. Then I heard a second plane hit the South Tower. In NYC all our phones went dead. I called around on my cell phone. I was wild with worry about where my sons (and my son-in-law, who worked at the World Financial Center, behind the towers) were.
God was good. Everyone was OK. We stayed in school till 6 PM that night, since so many of our students had parents who worked in Manhattan. We couldn't go home till every child had a place to go.
We stood on the roof of the school aTowers had toppled.
